What is a Wax Melt and How to use

What is a wax melt?

A wax melt is a piece of scented wax which is designed to create a strong long-lasting fragrance in your home. You simply snap off your desired piece of wax and pop it onto your burner, light your tea light and enjoy the aroma. You should typically get around 12 hours of the aroma however remember it will begin to fade the more times you burn it. It will smell strong the first time you burn the melt then it will become more subtle and with your judgement you can change the melt.

Tip to remove a used melt. Light a tealight for approx. 1 minute and try sliding it off then pop it into the bin.

Wax melts don’t normally smell as strong on electrical burners and normally have a better scent throw when using an ordinary burner with a maximum 4 hour tea-light candle.  Everyone is different and will have their own personal preference.

Our Ingredients.

What is Coconut and Rapeseed Wax

Coconut & Rapeseed wax is a more eco-friendly wax than Soy or Paraffin. Blended from Rapeseed oil and Coconut Oil in Europe, free from synthetic material and preservatives and the blend we use contains no added beeswax, palm oil or paraffin wax.

Coconut and rapeseed wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax making it safer to work with and handle. We melt our wax in small batches allowing for a fully controlled candle, tea light and wax melt creation process

It’s 100% vegan, bio-degradable and more sustainable than both Soy and Paraffin.

An overall cleaner burn, meaning the candle burns down at a more consistent rate, at a more consistent temperature. This also means a slightly slower burn, so it can last longer than Paraffin candles.

A much-improved cold and hot scent throw, scent throw means the amount of scent given when the candle is either cold (waiting to be burned) or hot (when it is lit/melting). This wax is great for both throws.

What is CLP Compliant.

CLP stands for Classification, Labelling & Packaging. CLP Regulations govern that since 1st June 2015 all new products with hazardous substances must be labelled accordingly in the EU including the UK. CLP applies to a non-cosmetic product of any size containing a hazardous substance such as fragrance or essential oils (e.g. candles, wax melts, room mists, reed diffusers etc.).

The regulations stipulate that certain information must be included on all CLP labels along with the requirements of the size and shape of that information. This includes:

  • Product identifiers
  • Hazard pictograms
  • Hazard statements
  • Allergen information
  • Signal words
  • Precautionary statements
  • Supplier information (your business address and contact number)

What is contained on a CLP label depends on the fragrance oil used in your wax melt. They are all completely individual to each scent from each supplier and some do not require any Hazard statements or Pictograms. This is because some fragrance oils do not contain any ingredients that are allergens or another sort of hazard. This means that you cannot use the same CLP label for all your different wax melts if they contain different fragrance oils.

The current guidance relevant to the UK is the ECHA Guidance on labelling and packaging in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. This is soon to be replaced by the UK's new guidance post Brexit but it is likely to be almost identical in nature.

CLP labels must be directly affixed to the packaging of your wax melts.

Why is it so important?

Failing to properly label your products could result in you breaking the law, rendering your insurance invalid and causing your customers to not have faith in your business.

Many ingredients in the fragrance oils are known to be eye or skin irritants and environmentally hazardous substances. If you fail to notify your customers of this and something goes wrong and/or someone is injured then you may be held liable for that.

Please note that Clean Melted has absolutely no affiliation to any designer scents/brands, the fragrances are simply just similar to the originals.

Wax melt safety.

Remove the packaging for your wax melt and place desired amount on the dish of your burner. Light your unscented tealight (we do not recommend using tealights which burn for more than 4 hours).

Keep out of the reach of children. Keep out of the reach of pets. Keep out of draughts and never leave a burning melt unattended.

Always ensure the space you use to burn your melt is clutter free, away from electrics or anything flammable. Always ensure safety comes first when burning wax melts.
